Taking things personally is a sign that our nervous system is in a threat state — not a character flaw.
When we're exhausted, stressed, or undernourished, our nervous system interprets neutral events as threats. The antidote begins with physiology: sleep, food, and movement.
Before reacting, pause. Take one full breath. Ask: 'Is this actually about me? What else might be true here?' That space is where your emotional strength lives.
Someone can impact you negatively without intending to. Distinguishing intent from impact reduces the personalisation loop and opens the door to compassionate communication.
Know who you are — your values, your gifts, your commitments. A strong sense of self means others' opinions, moods, and reactions don't threaten your foundation.
Your peace is not dependent on others' behaviour. That is emotional freedom.
